VAUGHAN DIES IN RICHMOND AT 87* Lemuel Whitfield Vaughan, age 87 years, probably the oldest citizen of the Franklin community, died last Thursday at the Richmond Nursing Home after an illness of two years. Mr. Vaughan was well known as a prosperous farmer of this community for many years. He was a member of the Union Christian Church near Franklin. He was a son of the late Lawson and Sarah Vaughan and husband of the late Mary Ricks Vaughan. Surviving his are five daughters: Miss Mary Vaughan of Portsmouth, Mrs. James E. Moore and Mrs. Stewart Trippe of Norfolk, Mrs. Lafayette Cox of Arlington and Mrs. Richard Jeffries of Norlina, N.C.; five sons, L.W. Vaughan, Jr. of Norfolk, C. Ricks Vaughan of Lynchburg, Vance, Carroll and Robert A. Vaughan of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Misses Emma and Quintilla Vaughan of Franklin, and one brother, P.C. Vaughan, of Jacksonville, Fla. The body was brought to the Holland Funeral Home where funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, by Dr. W.T. Scott, assisted at 2 o’clock by Dr. W.T. Scott, assisted by Dr. H.S. Hardcastle, burial following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The active pallbearers were: Tyler Edwards, Asa Joyner, J.F. Matthews, George H. Parker, Burton McLemore, R.G. Edwards, Walter M. Beale and Harry Steinhardt.
