Vaughan of the Franklin community, died suddenly Tuesday night at her home in her 72nd year. Mrs. Vaughan was the daughter of the late Collin and Mrs. Louise Edwards Ricks of Franklin, being married to L.W. Vaughan on August 3, 1887*. Their fiftieth wedding anniversary, which they celebrated last summer, was an event of interest to the large family and their many friends. Mrs. Vaughan was a member of Joyner’s Christian Church which she had attended since childhood and where her marriage took place. Besides her husband, Mrs. Vaughan is survived by five daughters, Miss Mary R. Vaughan of Portsmouth, Mrs. Lafayette Cox of Washington, Mrs. Richard Jeffers of Norlina, Mrs. James E. Moore and Mrs. Stewart Tripp of Norfolk; six sons, L.W. Vaughan of Norfolk, Vance W., Roy, Carl, and Robert Vaughan of Franklin, and C. Ricks Vaughan of Petersburg; a brother F.T. Ricks of Raleigh, a sister, Mrs. A.T. Read of Littleton; 10 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were conducted from the residence yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o’clock by Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, assisted by the Rev. H.S. Hardcastle of the Christian Temple Church, Norfolk, internment being made in Poplar Spring Cemetery here. Active pallbearers were R.G. Edwards, L. Roger Edwards, W.R.L. Cobb, Jr., Edgar Weede, J.C. Webb, R.C. Dempsey, Alfred Cobb and Reginald W. McLemore. Honorary bearers were relatives and friends of the family.
