Mr. Webb, on of Franklin’s best-known citizens, was born in Rockyhill, Conn., a nephew of the late Captain L.H.H. Webb. He had been making his home with his cousins, the Misses Webb, here, for the past thirty-five years. He is survived only by three cousins, Misses Fanny, Lessie and Gattie Webb. The funeral took place this afternoon at 4 o’clock from the residence on First Avenue, the Rev. Joseph S. Watt, rector of the Episcopal Church of Franklin, officiating. Interment was made in Poplar Spring cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CHARLES EDWIN WEBB Franklin, June 29 - (Special) - The funeral of Charles Edwin Webb was held at the home of the Misses Webb, on First Avenue, this afternoon at 4 o’clock. Mr. Webb, who was born in Rockyhill, Conn., in 1853, was a nephew of the late Capt. L.H. Webb, of Franklin, and had made his home with his cousins here for 35 years. He was never actively engaged in business in Franklin but was one of Franklin’s best-known residents. Only surviving relatives are three cousins, Misses Fanny, Lessie and Gattie Webb, all of Franklin. The Rev. Joseph S. Watt, of Emanuel Episcopal Church, officiated at the funeral. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were. W.F. Hart, Sidney Barrett, C.E. Pond, Dr. Beamon Story, W.A. Jones, A.M. Stevens, Al Young, of Suffolk, and Wayland Jones. ****************************************************************************** CHARLES EDWIN WEBB Charles Edwin Webb, well-known Franklin citizen, died at his home here Sunday afternoon, June 28, in his 78th year after a lingering illness. Mr. Webb, who was a native of Rocky Hill, Conn., came to Franklin about 35 years ago, making his home with his cousins, Misses Fanny, Lessie and Gattie Webb, Mr. Webb being a nephew of their father, the late Captain L.H. Webb of this town. Mr. Webb numbered many friends here, being keenly interested in sports and a familiar figure at all ball games and other athletic meets. His cousins, the Misses Webb, are his nearest surviving relatives, his sister, Mrs. Harriett Hyde of Connecticut, who was a frequent visitor in Franklin, dying about two years ago. Funeral rites were conducted from the Webb home in Euphradian Park Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. J. Sutherlalnd-Watt, rector of Emmanuel Church, and interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The body bearers were: W.F. Hart, R. Sidney Barrett, Dr. Beaman Story, C.E. Pond, Wayland Jones, A.M. Stevens, W.A. Jones and Al Young of Suffolk. The honorary bearers were: Thos. L. Parker, J.J. Finley, Barclay Pretlow, J.F. Bryant, Jr., W.T. Pace, J.W.B. Thompson, W.W. Edwards, L.B. Maddrey, Dr. J.C. Rawls and R.I. Leary.
