Mr. West was the husband of Mrs. Eula Raiford West, who survives him, his parents being the late George Washington and Louisa Gay West of Southampton County. A member of Black Creek Baptist Church, Mr. West was also a deacon of that congregation. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Franklin Love of Newport News; Mrs. Lucille Scanlan of Richmond, and Miss Jessie Mae West of Charlottesville; two sons, Howard W. West of Newport News and Shelton West of Holden, W. Va.; two stepchildren, Harold Branch of Newport News and Margaret Richerson of Norfolk; six grandchildren; four brothers, Leroy W. West of Lewisburg, W.Va.; Livy West of Norfolk; C.W. West of Ivor, and E.M. West of Zuni; five sisters, Mrs. E.P. Lowe and Mrs. N.D. Drewry of Franklin; Mrs. A.E. Drewry of Zuni; Mrs. P.M. Raiford of Ivor, and Mrs. L.L. Lewis of Suffolk. Services were held at the home near Zuni Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. W.B. Watson, assisted by the Rev. James R. Stein of Corinth. Burial took place in the Black Creek Cemetery, pallbearers being P.M. Raiford, W.F. Raiford, A.E. Drewry, M.C. Holt, M.H. Lowe, E.P. Lowe, C.C. Edwards and I.D. Drewry.
