All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GRACE VIRGINIA DARDEN WIGGINS Mrs. Wiggins, Church Leader, Dies in Franklin FRANKLIN - Mrs. Grace Darden Wiggins, 77, well-known resident and prominent church woman of the Franklin community, died early today in Raiford Memorial Hospital after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the residence by the Rev. Thomas W. Downing, pastor of the Sycamore Baptist Church, and Dr. Kenneth E. Burke of Richmond. Burial will be in the family cemetery near the home. The body was taken from the W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home to the residence today. She was the oldest member of Sycamore Baptist Church. An active church woman, she was teacher of the Men's Bible Class, clerk of the church and served as president of the Woman's Missionary Society for the past 40 years. She was the widow of Irvin Quinton Wiggins and daughter of the late Thomas A. and Laura Cross Darden of Southampton County. She is survived by two grandsons, John B. Wiggins Jr., USA Medical Corps, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Joe Nye Wiggins of Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John B. Wiggins Sr. of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Vernard Cotton of Franklin; and three brothers, Hunter Darden Sr., Joseph T. Darden and Theon A. Darden, all of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Grace Darden Wiggins, age 77 years, well known and beloved church woman of the Franklin community died early Friday morning in Raiford hospital after several months of illness. She was the widow of Irvin Quinton Wiggins, and the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Laura Cross Darden, of Southampton County. She was one of the oldest members of the Sycamore Baptist Church, teacher of the men's Bible class, clerk of the church, Past President of the Woman's Missionary Society for forty years. Surviving are two grandchildren; John B. Wiggins, Jr., USA Medical branch, Ft. Houston, Texas, Joe Nye Wiggins, Franklin, Daughter-in-law Mrs. John B. Wiggins, Sr., Franklin. One sister; Mrs. Vernard Cotton, Franklin. Three brothers; Hunter Darden, Sr., Joseph T. Darden, and Theon A. Darden, all of Franklin, and number nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, and late Friday afternoon was taken to the home. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday by her pastor, Rev. Thomas W. Downing, Sycamore Baptist Church and assisted by Dr. Kenneth E. Burke, of Richmond.
