Wade was run over and almost instantly killed by a car driven by Edward H. Brooks. According to accounts of the accident, Mr. Brooks was going from his home to his store, using a sort of by-path back of the Methodist Church as a customary short-cut from that part of Courtland to the business section. The child started to cross the path in front of the car and Mr. Brooks attempted to turn out to avoid striking her. In the confusion which so often attends a threatened accident of this kind, the child either turned back or the car swerved aside again with the result that the car struck her on the head and back. R.G. Edwards, who was driving a truck just behind Mr. Brooks, hurried to a doctor with the little girl but she died in a few moments. Frances, who was the second child in the family, was an unusually bright and attractive girl and a great favorite with all who knew her. She would have been seven years old next month, and was a member of the Courtland Baptist Sunday School. She was always faithful in attendance at Sunday school and never missed a service, but had been kept at home for the past several weeks on account of whooping cough. She had completed her first grade work in the Courtland Grammar School last session. Besides her parents she is survived by an older sister, Hazel, and a younger brother, J.H. Wade, Jr. The deepest sympathy of everyone in Courtland and of all friends throughout the county goes out to the bereaved parents in their great sorrow. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at four o'clock at the family burial plot in the Capron cemetery and were conducted by the Pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church, Rev. Kenneth E. Burke. The little mound was covered with a profusion of beautiful flowers sent by sympathizing friends. The pallbearers were: Charlie Howell, Floyd Beale, William Story, Jim Wade, Roy Caroon and Dr. I.P.
