JANE WHITE DIES IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Jane Denson Pretlow White, well-known and beloved resident of Franklin and widow of the late Dr. Thomas Newby White, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday night, August 14, after a short illness. At the time of her death she was 81 years of age. Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Samuel Bailey and Mary Winston Ricks Pretlow of Southampton County. She was one of the oldest members of Bethel Friends Meeting, in which she served faithfully for many years. She was a member of the Franklin Music Club and maintained a lively interest in all of the activities of the town. At one time she was a member of the Franklin School Board. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Alan McCullough of Richmond, and a son, Thomas Newby White, Jr., of McLean; and six grandchildren. The remains were taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons. On Thursday they were transferred to the residence on Clay Street. Funeral services will be held at the grave in the family cemetery at Beechwood Plantation on Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Norman E. Taylor of Portsmouth.
