LIZZIE REBECCA WEEDE

   Funeral services for Miss Lizzie Rebecca Weede, 75, retired teacher, were 
held from the residence in Second Avenue on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. 
Rev. Elmer N. Hassell, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, officiated, 
assisted by Rev. J.S. Maxey of Franklin and Rev. Roscoe Jones, D.D. of Stoney 
Creek, a former pastor.

   "Miss Lizzie" as she was known to a host of friends in Franklin, was born 
in Murfreesboro, N.C., on October 29, 1875, the daughter of the late Joseph T. 
and Celia Jackson Weede.  She was educated at the Wesleyan Female Institute in 
Murfreesboro, graduating in 1891.  From then until her retirement in 1927 she 
taught in the public schools of Isle of Wight and Southampton counties, most 
of her teaching career being spent in Franklin, where she was a member of the 
grammar school faculty for more than 20 years.  The thoroughness of her 
teaching methods and the kindness of her disposition made her respected and 
beloved by all who came under her instruction.  She was a member of High 
Street Methodist Church.

   Taken sick five years ago "Miss Lizzie" never completely regained her 
health.  On Sunday afternoon, January 14, she suffered the cerebral hemorrhage 
which resulted in her death on Monday afternoon, January 22, about 5:30 
o’clock in Raiford Memorial Hospital.

   Surviving her are a sister, Miss Pattie D. Weede of Franklin; four 
brothers, Charlie M. Weede of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jesse A., J. Edgar, and 
Willie M. Weede of Franklin; two nephews, Jesse A. Weede, Jr., of Franklin and 
Davis Weede of Atlanta,Ga.; and three great nieces.

   The services were attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. 
Mrs. Seith Atkinson and Mrs. Rosalie Britt sang "Gathering Home."  Burial was 
in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being Frank 
Story Cutchin, Edward F. Gilliam, Thomas C. Holland, Jr., Bailey Maddrey, H.S. 
Rawlings, G.G. Smith, G. Carl Steinhardt and Harry Steinhardt.  The casket was 
covered with a pall of lilies and pink and white carnations.
