All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLIE FRANKLIN WHITFIELD Charlie Franklin Whitfield, 81, well-known retired business man of Franklin, died Thursday morning, August 18 in Raiford Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack more than a week ago. "Mr. Charlie," as he was known to his many friends in the community, was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and its Bruner Bible class. He was the son of the late George Washington and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Whitfield of Southampton County, and husband of the late Mrs. Clio King Whitfield. Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. J.C. Story of Newsoms; two sons, Marion S. and Franklin Whitfield of Franklin; five grandchildren’ and three sisters, Mrs. A.S. Johnson of Franklin and Mrs. T.C. Munden and Miss Helen Whitfield of Hickory. Funeral services for Mr. Whitfield will be held at the residence on Second Avenue this (Friday) afternoon at four o’clock, with Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
