Whitfield, 43 years old, of 101 Gilmerton Avenue, died Sunday afternoon in the home of his brother, R.T. Whitfield here, where he went to spend the afternoon. He was only ill for a short time. Mr. Whitfield had been a resident of Portsmouth for eight years and previous to that time had spent several years farming near Franklin. He held membership in the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church of Portsmouth. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Whitfield; two daughters and one son, Mrs. W.H. Boothe, Miss Annie Mary Whitfield, John Whitfield; seven brothers, E. Whitfield, J.E., S.T., R.T., G.R., W.K., and Ed Whitfield; three sisters, Mrs. L.A. Presson, Mrs. A.J. Hancock, Mrs. W.T. Johnson. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Franklin Baptist Church at 2 o’clock. Burial took place at Poplar Spring Cemetery.
