Whitfield, 85, Southampton County native who died Friday morning were conducted yesterday in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland Sons Funeral Home in Franklin. The services, held at 2 p.m., were conducted by the Rev. O.L. Gochenour, pastor of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church. Pallbearers were Fouchee Railey, Ben J. Bryant, George Hill, John Bryant, Kemper Daughtrey, Jr., and Mack Floyd. Interment was made in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin. ****************************************************************************** JOSEPHUS C. WHITFIELD Josephus C. Whitfield, 85, a native of Southampton County, died Thursday morning, January 5, at Patrick Henry Hospital after an illness of many months. Mr. Whitfield was the husband of Mrs. Eva Hill Whitfield of Handsom, and a member of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church. Surviving him are two sons, Raiford L. Whitfield of Norfolk and Charles A. Whitfield of Handsom; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by Rev. O.L. Gochenour, pastor of the Newsoms Methodist Church and Rev. George T. Euting, pastor of Burroughs Memorial Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Foushee Railey, Benjamin J. Bryant, George Hill, John Bryant, Kemper Daughtrey and Mack Floyd.
