All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROGER THOMAS WHITFIELD, FRANKLIN, MAY 10 1945 -- Roger Thomas Whitfield, 83, one of the oldest residents of Southampton County died at his home in Courtland this morning after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Whitfield was the husband of Mrs. Corrine Vick Whitfield, of Courtland, and son of late John and Louise Joyner Whitfield, of Southampton County. Besides his wife he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Leila Ann Presson of Dendron; Mrs. Maggie Hancock, of Sedley, and Mrs. Nannie Johnson, of Ivor, and four brothers, Edward Whitfield, of Sedley William K. Whitfield, of Ivor; Sam T. Whitfield, of Virginia Beach and Junius E. Whitfield, of Richmond. Funeral services will be held at the residence in Courtland Friday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Percy White. Interment will be in the Courtland cemetery. Active pallbearers will be J. E. Whitfield, Sam T. Whitfield, W. K. Whitfield, J. B. Vick, and Howard Hancock.
