All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SAMUEL TILDEN WHITFIELD Samuel Tilden Whitfield, 73, of 2409 Arctic Avenue, Virginia Beach, died Monday, September 5, while en route to the Virginia Beach Hospital after suffering a heart attack at 4:20 p.m. He was a native of Courtland and had resided at Virginia Beach for the past five years. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Applewhite Whitfield; four daughters, Mrs. J.T. Dudley of Norfolk, Mrs. D.F. Martin of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. F.N. Sands of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Roy Turner of Virginia Beach; one son, William Thomas Whitfield of Boron, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Johnson of Ivor and Mrs. Andrew Hancock of Sedley; and one brother, Junius E. Whitfield of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted at the James V. Derry funeral chapel in Norfolk at one o’clock tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, followed by burial in the Wakefield cemetery, Sussex County.
