Watson of our town, died at her home in Lee Street Wednesday afternoon, May 4, after a long and lingering illness. For practically ten years she had been an invalid and suffered intensely, bearing her affliction with Christian grace and fortitude. Mrs. Watson, who was 51* years of age, was the daughter of the late Rev. John Bailey and Mrs. Hannah Raysor Salley of Orangeburg, S.C., her father being a prominent Methodist minister of South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Watson were married in 1904 and moved to Franklin a few months thereafter. The deceased was a consistent member of High Street M.E. Church and a woman of many fine qualities, a good neighbor and until her health failed a useful figure in her church and community activities. She is survived by her husband and four children, W.C. Watson, Jr., of Langley Field, Caroline, John and Hannah Watson; by five sisters, Mrs. M.G. Salley of Orangeburg, Mrs. C.H. Litener of Wallaceville, S.C., Mrs. Stokes Salley of Orangeburg, S.C., Mrs. W.H. Plummer and Miss Lottie Salley of Asheville, N.C., and by two brothers, Frank Salley of Asheville and Raysor Salley of Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services were held from the Watson residence in Lee street yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. L.T. Williams, pastor of High Street M.E Church. The church choir sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Asleep in Jesus". Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the body bearers being H.M. Frankford, Harry Steinhardt, W.H. Jones, Dr. W.E. Snipes, Dr. Beamon Story, W.H. Norfleet, J.A. Weede and J.B. Gay. The honorary pallbearers were a large number of friends of the family.
