Mr. Watkinson, a Accomack County native, was a former Courtland town councilman and a former Southampton County deputy sheriff. He was a past master of the Courtland Masonic Lodge and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and the Davis Ridley Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Davis Watkins; a daughter, Patti A. Watkinson; a daughter of Sedley; three sons, Harwood P. Watkinson of the Virgin Islands, Wayne P. Watkinson of Richmond and William P. Watkinson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four sisters, Nell W. Finney of Stephensville, Md., Ann W. Messick of Kilmarnock, Bernice Harteman of Onancock and Alma W. Browne of Franklin; a brother, Jack A. Watkinson of Greenbush; and three grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday in Courtland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Luther Marks. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Wright Funeral Home handled arrangements.
