Whitehead, 91, died Jan. 30, 2000, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Whitehead was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and the longtime postmaster of the former Sebrell Post Office. She was the daughter of the late J. Watt [sic*; Walter] and Bettie Rowe Whitehead and the widow of William Nicholas Whitehead. She was a member of Sebrell United Methodist Church and the Sebrell Womans Club. Survivors include two daughters, Bettie Whitehead of Virginia Beach and Janet W. Kitchen of Courtland; two sisters, Doris W. Applewhite and Elizabeth O. Whitehead; a brother, Homer R. Whitehead, all of Courtland; two grandchildren, Ben Kitchen and Kay K. Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Jordan Smith and Stephanie and Richard Kitchen. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, with the Rev. James M. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Barn Tavern Cemetery, Sebrell. The family will receive friends at the home of Emerson and Janet Kitchen, 16283 Plank Road, Courtland, and suggests that memorials be made to Sebrell UMC, P.O.
