Whitehead died at his home in Courtland Thursday, October 29, about midnight after a lingering illness. Mr. Whitehead was born in Southampton County and was a member of Nottoway Chapel. On February 27, 1884, he married Miss Mary Ellen Whitehead by whom he is survived with five children, Mrs. J.D. Norfleet of Franklin, Misses Willie and Lois Whitehead of Courtland, H.A. Whitehead of Suffolk and C.W. Whitehead of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, J.M. Whitehead of Courtland; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the home Friday afternoon at 3:30 by Rev. Gordon L. Price of the Courtland Baptist Church, assisted by Dr. W.T. McLemore by special request of the family. Interment was made in the family burying ground at the home of the late J.W. Whitehead near Sebrell. Pallbearers were: G.C. Whitehead, Emmett Whitehead, J.H. Joyner, Carroll Barnes, W.N.
