Mr. Whitehead was the husband of the late Fannie Applewhite Whitehead of Southampton County and son of the late James Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Jordan Whitehead. He was a member of Courtland Methodist Church. Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. Bess Whitehead Hassett* of Pope, Mrs. Blanch W. Williams of Norfolk, Mrs. Frances W. Jinnette and Mrs. Kate W. Duggins, both of Richmond; a brother, Reginald F. Whitehead of Emporia. The body was taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons of Franklin where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. David Willis. Interment will be made in Courtland Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** HENRY LUTHER WHITEHEAD Henry Luther Whitehead, 72, a life-long resident of Southampton County, died suddenly early Tuesday morning, December 27, at the home in Pope of his daughter, Mrs. Bess Whitehead Hassett. Circumstances indicated that Mr. Whitehead had aroused for the day and was sitting on the side of the bed when stricken. The deceased was the husband of the late Fannie Applewhite Whitehead and son of the late James Thomas and Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan Whitehead. He was a member of Courtland Methodist Church. Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. Kate W. Duggins and Mrs. Frances W. Jinnette, both of Richmond, Mrs. Bess W. Hassett of Pope, and Mrs. Blanche W. Williams of Norfolk; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Reginald F. Whitehead of Emporia. Funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons by Rev. David S. Willis, pastor of the Capron Methodist Church. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The pallbearers were Claude Applewhite, William R. Davis, Frank Marks, Thomas Vaughan, Leslie Whitehead, Linwood Whitehead, McNeil Whitehead and Willie Whitehead.
