WHITEHEAD’S FUNERAL SUNDAY Courtland and Sebrell communities were shocked early this week at news of the death Monday of S/Sgt. Leonard Boothe Whitehead from injuries received in an air crash at Larson Air Base in Washington State on last Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Leland Whitehead in the Sebrell community on Sunday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. C.A. McCormick, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Courtland. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Vaughan Harris Whitehead, who has been residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Ellis Harris, in Courtland while Sergeant Whitehead was in the service. Sergeant Whitehead left only a short time ago for Larson Air Base after completing a furlough which he spent with his wife and parents. He had only a few more months to go before being discharged from the service, which he planned to do. The body is expected to reach Franklin early Saturday morning. It will be taken to the Whitehead home that afternoon where it will remain until the time of the funeral. Sergeant Whitehead graduated at Hargrave Military Academy in June of 1950. Within a short time he joined the Air Force, serving first at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served one year in Greenland, and upon his return was assigned to the base in Washington state. Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Jimmy Spain of Franklin; a brother, William Whitehead of Sebrell; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Boothe of Wakefield; five aunts and three uncles.
