All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BRUCE ERWIN WHITLEY LOCAL BOY FATALLY HURT; FALLS UNDER MOVING MOWER Five-year old Bruce Erwin Whitley was fatally injured last Friday afternoon when he fell from a tractor into the path of a mower at his home near Franklin. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Whitley, the child was taken immediately by his father to the Raiford Memorial Hospital here. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The child reportedly had been riding on the tractor with his father, who stopped it to momentarily get off. Somehow the tractor restarted and jolted the boy backward off into the path of the mower attached to the tractor. The child’s spine was severed just below the shoulders. Young Whitley recently had been christened in the Hunterdale Christian Church. Besides his parents, surviving are his brother, Larry Wayne; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. J.R. Whitley of Windsor, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ryland Gillette of Zuni. ****************************************************************************** BRUCE ERWIN WHITLEY Funeral services for Bruce Erwin Whitley, 5, who was fatally injured in a fall from a tractor Friday afternoon, September 20 were conducted Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland, and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Joe French , pastor of Hunterdale Christian Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. W.A. Grissom, pastor of Windsor Christian Church. Surviving are his parents, Marvin and Mrs. Mary Gillette Whitley; a brother, Larry Wayne Whitley; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. J.R. Whitley of Windsor; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Ryland Gillette of Zuni. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. Pallbearers were Joe Owen, Bernard Smith, Edgar Blythe and J.G. Cobb.
