Whitley, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Whitley of this community, died in Sheffield, Alabama, August 7, 1934, age 44 years. He is survived by two daughters, Misses Mary Elizabeth of Norfolk and Antoinette of Emporia; three brothers, Ernest of New York City, Hurley of Norfolk, and Alonzo of Handsom, and five sisters, Mrs. Frank Edwards of the Franklin community, Mrs. Cora Edwards, Mrs. W.R. Whitley and Mrs. Jones of Norfolk and Mrs. A.J. Bowles of Portsmouth. His wife, who was Miss Anne Worrell of the Boykins community, died in 1933. Mr. Whitley was born, reared and spent most of his life in Southampton County until the past six years. A.J. Bowles and Hurley Whitley went to Alabama for the body, returning to Franklin with it August 19. The burial took place that afternoon in the family plot in Mt. Horeb M.E. Church Cemetery with services conducted at the grave by Rev. J.K. Holman, assisted by Rev. L.E. Dailey. [Cobb Coswell WHITLEY, formerly of Southampton Co., b.
