A native of Southampton County, she was the wife of Henry Floyd Whitley. Her parents were Walter and Mrs. Leithe Cobb Beale [sic; Beale Cobb*]. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. Besides her husband, surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Lee Moody of Kinston, N.C., Miss Mary Lee Barnes of Boykins and Miss Bonnie Mae Barnes of Boykins; two sons, Walter Thomas Griffin of Murfreesboro and James Barnes of Suffolk; two step-daughters, Mrs. Daisy L. Hedgepeth and Mrs. Margarette Green of Roduco, N.C.; four stepson, Julian Whitley of Sedley, Floyd R. Whitley of Ft. Riley, Kan., William Thomas Whitley of Boykins and George R. Whitley of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. J.H. Joyner and Mrs. Hurley Edwards of Franklin; two brothers, T.R. Cobb Sr. of Franklin and Sam J. Cobb of Roanoke Rapids; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Black Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. C.L. Gatling. Burial was in the church cemetery.
