Whitley, 78, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in New Hope United Methodist Church by the Revs. Arthur Green and Kenny Williams. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, with Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, in charge. Whitley died Friday in a hospital. A native of Hertford County, he was the husband of Helen A. Whitley. He was a businessman and farmer and was a member and trustee of New Hope United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Como Ruritan Club. Other survivors include a sister, Janie W. Porter of Franklin, Va.; three brothers, Frank I. Whitley of Franklin, Robert H. Whitley of Portsmouth, Va., and George R. Whitley of Como; and nieces and nephews.
