Services were conducted by Rev. Fred Hopkins and Rev. Harry Bunch. Pallbearers were M. Gilbert Porter, Walter Story, Bobby Whitley, Jerry Whitley, Carson Whitley, Jr., and Raymond Whitley. Joe Whitley, 69, of 7__ Walnut St. died Monday morning Nov. 13, 1972 in Norfolk hospital after a long illness. A native of Hertford Co., N.C. he was the son of Jim Everett Whitley and Anna Laura Edwards Whitley. He was a member of New Hope Methodist Church and a farmer. Surviving are four sisters; Mrs. Lloyd Story and Mrs. Marvin Porter of Franklin, Mrs. W.M. Worrell, Como, N.C., and Mrs. Leo Britt, of Zuni; four brothers, Jim A. Whitley, Como, N.C., Frank I. Whitley, Franklin, Robert H. Whitley, Portsmouth, and George R. Whitley, Newsoms. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in charge. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Story, 706 Pretlow St. Franklin.
