Holland & Sons Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Robert D. Fridley, High Street United Methodist Church and the Rev. C.L. Gatling, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Garnet Whitley, James Bracey Jr., Harrell Whitley, Roland Whitley, William B. Hastings, Dr. Lemuel Branch, Edward Tinsley and Lloyd Tinsley. Whitley, 73, a retired hardware merchant, died Southampton Memorial Hospital Friday morning after a short illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Bradshaw Whitley, and the son of the late Charles H. and Sallie W. Whitley. A native of Hertford County, N.C., he was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church and a honorary steward. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge 151, the Lions Club and Phythian Lodge. Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters; Mrs. Hudson R. Lankford and Mrs. Maxey R. Day, both of Franklin. Six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; three brothers, Fletcher L. Whitley, Franklin, Elvin H. and Percy A. Whitley, both of Carrsville.
