All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ANNIE LAURA EDWARDS WHITLEY FRANKLIN - Mrs. Annie Laura Whitley, 75, well-known resident of the Como, N.C., community, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, June 10, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was the widow of James Everett Whitley and the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Turner Edwards of Southampton County. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church, near Como, and of its missionary society. Surviving are six sons, J.A. Whitley of Como, N.C., Carson, Irvin and Joe Whitley, all of Franklin, George Whitley of Newsoms, and Robert Whitley of Portsmouth; three daughters, Mrs. W.C. Butler, Mrs. Marvin Porter and Mrs. Lloyd Story, all of Franklin; four step-daughters, Mrs. E.L. Ferrell of Franklin, Mrs. W.M. Worrell of Como, Mrs. J.G. Kennedy of Norfolk, and Mrs. L.L. Brett of Zuni; two brothers, Jim Edwards of Como and Paul Edwards of Boykins; one sister, Mrs. Ida Balance of Newsoms; 36 grandchildren and 49 great-grand children; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from New Hope Methodist Church last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the pastor of the church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Everett Butler, Andrew Drake, Harry Drake, Gilbert Porter, Walter Story, Bobby Whitley, Cason Whitley, Marvin Worrell and Morris Worrell.
