All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS CLEVELAND WHITLEY Thomas Cleveland Whitley, 56, lumberman and business man here for 30 years, died at his home in Chestnut St. Sunday night. Mr. Whitley was the son of the late Charles H. Whitley and Sallie Ann Whitley. He is survived by his wife, Floy Piland Whitley; four sons, Thomas Carroll, John Otis, Julian Piland and Roger Chapman Whitley and a daughter, Mary E. Whitley; four brothers, F.L. and L.A. Whitley of Franklin and P.A. and E.H. Whitley of Carrsville. Mr. Whitley was a member of High Street Methodist Church and of the Franklin Lodge Woodmen of the Word. Services were conducted from the Holland Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon by his pastor, the Rev. B.B. Bland, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson and the Rev. J.P. Batkins at 3 o’clock with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were P.A., F.L. and E.H. Whitley, F.W. Wellons, E.B. Dixon, Geo. H. Parker, J. Edward Moyler and Jim Whitley. Mr. Whitley was a man of high integrity and one who could be depended upon as faithful and trustworthy in the affairs of life. He had been engaged in the lumber business here for many years, selling his products principally to jobbers in the Norfolk area, and was a man of untiring energy and industry. He had many friends in all walks of life and enjoyed the confidence and respect of his employees and all with whom he had business relations.
