He was a native of Dinwiddie County and lived in the Courtland community 40 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Hattie Rowe Wells and a son of George T. and Mrs. Ellie Bailey Collier Wells. Besides his widow, he is survived by three foster-daughters, Miss Virginia Lee Rowe and Mrs. J. Richard Kello III of Courtland and Mrs. J.E. Hughes of Richmond; a foster son, Charles D. (Jimmy) Rowe of Courtland and Lexington; a sister, Mrs. B.W. Matthews of Petersburg; and two brothers, William R. Wells of Colonial Heights and George C. Wells of Carson. A funeral service was conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin by Rev. Percy White of Hampton, a former pastor of Sebrell Methodist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Pallbearers were G.C. Wells, W.L. Michael, B.E. Michael, William Wells, S.T. Barker, Jr., H.T. Whitehead, J.T. Rowe, Jr., and A.D. Landrum.
