All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BIRTA HAZELETTE UMPHLETTE WILKINS Mrs. Birta Hazelette Wilkins, resident of Route 2, Sedley, widow of Thomas Henry Wilkins, died Wednesday morning , June 20, at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, after suffering ill health for many months. Mrs. Wilkins was the daughter of the late Riddick and Josephine Umphlette of Nansemond County. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and the Woman’s Missionary Society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doris Wilkins Smith of Suffolk and Mrs. Albert Wilkins West of Zuni; two sons, Lafayette T. Wilkins of Suffolk and Elton R. Wilkins of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Riddick Umphlette of Whaleyville and Mrs. J.R. Pierce of Suffolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in Black Creek Baptist Church and the body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service, Rev. L.B. Allen, Jr., pastor of the church, will officiate assisted by Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Floyd Riddick Umphlette, Jr., Lafayette Wilkins, Jr., Floyd Wilkins, Bobby Smith, Shirley Ellis, B.L. Riddick, Robert H. Horton and Howard Skinner.
