All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS HENRY WILKINS Thomas Henry Wilkins, 61, a farmer residing in the Black Creek community, died in his sleep at his home early Friday morning, December 24. He had suffered for many months with a heart condition, but retired Thursday night feeling in the best of spirits. The deceased was the son of the late James T. and Margaret Ellen Baker Wilkins of Elizabeth City, N.C., and the husband of Mrs. Hazel Umphlett Wilkins of this county, moving to Southampton in 1929. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Class of Black Creek Baptist Church. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. I.J. Smith of Holland and Mrs. H.M. West of Zuni; two sons, L.T. and E.R. Wilkins, both of Suffolk; ten grandchildren; one brother, James T. Wilkins of Elizabeth City; and two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Rabey and Mrs. Rufus Forbes, both of Elizabeth City. Funeral services for Mr. Wilkins were conducted Monday afternoon at two o’clock by the pastor, Rev. W.B. Watson. Burial was in the church cemetery, the active pallbearers being Rabey Beale, Aurelius Drewry, Crawley Edwards, Linwood Bradshaw, Hurley Bradshaw, Charley Holland, W.F. Edwards and Gurley Raiford.
