WILLIAMS, GOOD COUNTY CITIZEN, DIES Charlie Walter Williams, prominent Courtland citizen, died Friday night, April 21, after two years of ill-health. Born December 9, 1880, the son of the late Alpheus A. and Mrs. Rebecca Briggs Williams of the Dory community of this county, he had spent the greater part of his life in Courtland where he was engaged in business and farming, being a pioneer in better farming and hog-raising methods. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church and was quite active in Courtland Lodge No. 85, A.F. and A.M. Charlie Williams was a genial man with many friends and was one of the most influential citizens of his community and county. He is survived by one brother, W.S. Williams, and four sisters, Miss Laura Williams, Mrs. J.W. Rollison, Mrs. W.E. Edwards and Mrs. S.N. Cobb, all of Courtland. Among other near relatives are two nephews, Rev. William A. Edwards of Newport News and Lieut. B.A. Williams, Jr., U.S. Army, now stationed in California. Funeral services were conducted from his late residence in Courtland Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Rev. Percy D. White of the Courtland Church, assisted by Rev. R.H. Marks of Capron, with burial following in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. During the service, Mr. White read "Lead Kindly Light," and at the grave "Now the Laborer's Task Is Done." The pallbearers were: W.T. Pace, Jr., W.R. Pittman, Dr. Jas. A. Grizzard, Leroy Bryant, W.W. White, Jr., Leland Simmons, George B. Vick and H.C. Edwards. The casket was draped with a pall of white carnations, lilies and pink roses, while there were many other floral tributes.
