Funeral services for Harry Allen Williams, Jr., 70, of Ashland were conducted at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. James B. Douglas, pastor of High Street Methodist Church. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Henry Allen Williams and Martha Beale Williams. He was born in Franklin in 1888*. He attended Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, and graduated from Washington and Lee University, Lexington. He was in the real estate business for several years in Norfolk and in Florida. Since his retirement he had made his home in Ashland, where he died on Friday, April 4. Mr. Williams was twice married. His first wife was Marthena Harrison, granddaughter of President Benjamin Harrison, who was born in the White House. Of this union there were three daughters, two of whom survive. His second wife was Miss Katherine Pettus of Portsmouth. He was widely connected with the Williams and Beale families of Southampton and Nansemond counties. First cousins now residing in Franklin include M. Wharton Williams, Miss Gertrude Williams, Mrs. R.J. Tucker, Mrs. Everett Bryant, Miss Dolly Williams, Miss Helen I. Lawrence, Mrs. Liluer B. Nixon and J.C. Williams, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katherine Pettus Williams of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Mrs. John L. Devine of Minot, S. Dak., and Mrs. Gilliam Ellisor of Bethesda, Md.; five grandchildren; and two sister, Mr. R.G.P. Bugg of Norfolk and Mrs. Roland A. Williams of Scottsburg.
