Williams died at his home in Lee Street Wednesday afternoon in his 70th year, after an illness of more than three years. Mr. Williams was the son of the late John and Mrs. Mary Eliza Williams of this town, and had spent practically all of his life with his uncles, the Camps, in the business of the Camp Manufacturing Company here and in Eastern North Carolina. As superintendent of their extensive logging operations for many years, he was considered one of their most valuable employees, Mr. Williams and his family moving to Franklin from Lewiston, N.C., 25 years ago. He is survived by his wife, who was before their marriage Miss Nena Newsom of Littleton, N.C.; by five sons, J.C. Williams, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Paul Camp Williams of Richmond, John Hervey Williams of Williamston, N.C., Eugene and Ernest Williams of this town; one daughter, Miss Anne Williams of Franklin; two brothers, John A. Williams of Franklin and Henry A. Williams of Norfolk, besides a large and prominent family connection. Funeral services will be conducted from the home this (Friday) afternoon, at 3 o’clock by Mr. Williams’ Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Franklin Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Roscoe Jones, Rev. J. Sutherland-Watt and Dr. L.S. Flournoy, presiding elder of the Portsmouth-Newport News District. Burial will be made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being his five sons, two nephews, Wharton Williams of Franklin and Frank C. Williams of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Dr. P.D. Camp of Richmond.
