WILLIAMS John Anthony Williams, 73, vice president of the Camp Manufacturing Company, died early Tuesday morning, March 22, in a Richmond hospital. He had been in failing health for some years, but his condition had become critical only about a week before his death. He was the son of the late John and Mary Eliza Camp Williams of Southampton County. For more than fifty years Mr. Williams was connected with the Camp lumber interest. In September, 1947, he retired from active participation in the affairs of the firm but retained his position as vice president. He was a successful operator of several farms in Southampton and Isle of Wight counties. Mr. Williams was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, of which he had been a deacon since 1916, and a teacher in the Sunday school. He was also a member for many years of the Mission Board of the Southern Congregational Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Lee Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Everett Bryant and Miss Dorothy Williams, both of Franklin, and a grandson, John Everett Bryant. Funeral services for Mr. Williams were conducted from the Congregational Christian Church on Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock. Dr. William T. Scott of Elon College, N.C., officiated, assisted by Dr. L.E. Smith, president of Elon College, and Rev. Randolph Gregory, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being Frank C. Williams of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Dr. P.D. Camp of Richmond, and P. Ryland Camp, John M. Camp, James L. Camp, Jr., R.J. Tucker, L.B. Holland and E.T. Fitzgerald. The casket was covered with a beautiful pall of calla lilies and red roses.
