Murfreesboro, N.C. - Funeral services for Marion Eugene Williams Sr., 76, were held Wednesday in Murfreesboro United Methodist Church by the Rev. Billy Carden. Burial was in the Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Williams a retired professor of Chowan College died Monday in Roanoke - Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. He was a native of Franklin, Va., and the husband of Mrs. Frances Ferguson Williams. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond and earned his master’s degree at Duke University. He studied at the University of Dijon, France. He was a member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, a past president of Murfreesboro Rotary Club, and curator of the Murfreesboro Historical Library. Other survivors include a son, Marion Eugene Williams Jr. of Beeville, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Harvey Pence of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Chowan College, Murfreesboro Rescue Squad, the American Cancer Society, or Murfreesboro United Methodist Church.
