Mrs. Vennie B. Williams 

  GATES, N.C. - Mrs. Vennie Britt Williams, 81, died Wednesday in a Rocky Mt. 
Hospital after a long illness.  She was the widow of J. Libb Williams and a 
daughter of James Elbert and Mrs. Mary Johnson Britt [sic; Brett], and a native 
of Hertford Co.  She was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church and its Carrie 
Brown Bible Class. 

  Surviving are two sons: Robert Marvin Williams of Newport News, and John L. 
Williams of Gates; four daughters: Mrs. Pearl W. Snow of Gates, Mrs. Rose 
Fowler of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Elma Hayes and Mrs. Irene Mathias, both of 
Suffolk, one brother; Jimmie G. Britt [sic; Brett] of Como, N.C.; 21 
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 

  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist 
Church by the Rev. Billy P. Presley.  Burial will be in Eure Christian Church 
Cemetery.  Jack W. Harrell Funeral Home of Gatesville is in charge.

Her name is often spelled "Venie."  The 1930 Census - Reynoldson Dist., 
   Gates Co., NC - gives Lavinia. 

She & Libb (1887 - 1940) m. 22 Sep 1910, in Gates Co., NC. 

Her parents are buried at the New Hope Church site, Como, Hertford Co., NC. 
   (Find a Grave Mem. #81752855 & #81752834) 

Her father (1834 - 1915) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private 
   in Co. H, 41st VA Infantry.  His step-mother (1855 - 1930) applied for a 
   pension 28 Jun 1924 in Southampton Co. 

Her father left will 23 Oct 1903, proved 16 Dec 1915.
