BETTIE WOMBLE, 98, DIES NEAR SEDLEY Mrs. Bettie Womble, 98, oldest resident of the Sedley community, died April 28 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.M. Johnson, near Sedley. She was the daughter of the late M.C. and Patient Bradshaw*, of Southampton County. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, J.T. and C.H. Womble, of Ivor, and Sonny Womble, of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. W.M. Johnson, of Sedley; 15 grand and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Black Creek Church at 2:30 P.M. Burial was in the church cemetery. ****************************************************************************** ELIZABETH "BETTIE" BRADSHAW WOMBLE Mrs. Bettie Womble, 98, oldest resident of the Sedley community, died Monday morning, April 28, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.M. Johnson, near Sedley, after an illness of several months. She was the daughter of the late M.C. and Patient Bradshaw* of Southampton County, and was an active member of the Black Creek Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Womble is survived by three sons, J.T. Bradshaw and C.H. Bradshaw* of Ivor and Sonny Womble of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. W.M. Johnson of Sedley; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. The body was brought to the Holland Funeral Home in Franklin, where it lay in state until Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted from the Black Creek Church at 2:30 o’clock by the pastor, Rev. W.B. Watson, with interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Lloyd Johnson, Woodrow Johnson, Raby Vann, F.L. Futrell, Robert Bradshaw and T.J. Bradshaw. Jan 1855 VA, divorced, 4/4 ch surviving. She seems to be identical with this bride: William H. Womble, 18, b. & res. Southampton Co., [parents not given], Laborer Elizabeth Bradshaw, 22, b. & res. Southampton Co., d/o H. & E. Bradshaw m.lic. 16 Jan 1878, by clerk L.R. Edwards m. 17 Jan 1878, at the Bride's residence, by John T. Kitchen (Southampton Co. MB3:256) The 1880 Census (Jerusalem, So.Co.) gives Henry WOMBLE, 20, Elizabeth, 25, and son James M., 2; adjacent to sisters Sallie WOMBLE, 50, & Polly WOMBLE, 48. Her ex-husband (1861 - 1922) is buried with his second wife in High Hill Cemetery, Aurora, Beaufort Co., NC.
