Mrs. Ward, a daughter of the late Otto Harcum and Annie Mae Skinner Harcum, was born March 20, 1937 in Franklin, Va., and spent the majority of her life in Alexandria, Va. She received an associate’s degree from Averett College and was employed as a secretary to the vice president of Allegheny Airlines for several years. Most recently, she served as a secretary to the late Congressman Jamie Whitten of Mississippi. Mrs. Ward retired to Charleston, S.C., where she pursued her hobbies of gardening and antiquing. A resident of Sunrise at Eastover in Charlotte for the past two years, she is remembered for her Christian devotion and a servant of the Lord. Survivors include her husband, Robert S. Ward, Jr. of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C.; son, Robert H. Ward and his wife Stephanie of Charlotte; her daughter, Amy Castillo and her husband Mark of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandsons, Alexander Ward and Anthony Castillo; her sister Harriette Hobbs and her husband Charles of Chevy Chase,Md. A service of tribute to the life of Mrs. Ward will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, Charlotte, www.hankinsandwhittington.com The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. A private committal service will be held at Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
