All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LEWIS ARTHUR WORRELL Lewis Arthur Worrell, well-known resident of Newsoms, died in Lakeview Hospital Sunday morning at the age of 62. Mr. Worrell was twice married, his first wife being Miss Naomi Crumpler of Southampton County. To this union were born five children. Later he married Miss Lois Porter of Newsoms. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lois Porter Worrell; three daughters, Mrs. Jas. T. Story, Jr., and Miss Gladys Worrell of Newsoms and Mrs. J.R. Railey of Statesville; two sons, L.A. Worrell, Jr. and James Worrell of Newsoms; a sister, Mrs. Ella Spain. Another sister, Mrs. Margaret Baker of Portsmouth, died three weeks ago. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from his home in Newsoms Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock by his Pastor, Rev. C.P. Cleveland of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield, a former pastor of Mr. Worrell. The casket was covered with a pall of white carnations, lilies and fern. There were many lovely floral tributes. Active pallbearers were J.Q. Worrell, P.S. Worrell, Z.T. Bradshaw, George Bradshaw, D.T. Drake, R.G. Carter, G.R. Fowler and Russell Drake. Burial took place in Newsoms Cemetery. There was a large attendance, many relatives and friends attending from out-of-town.
