All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROXANNA WORRELL WORRELL Mrs. Roxanna Worrell, age 76, a well known resident of the Handsom community, died suddenly last Friday morning while en route to Raiford Hospital here. She was the daughter of the late Elias and Irene Ferguson Worrell*, being reared at Newsoms. Her husband, John Bernard* Worrell, died in 1918. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. B.A. Porter; two sons, John R. and Elias Worrell, all of Handsom; two granddaughter, Miss Mary Virginia Worrell of Norfolk and Miss Elizabeth Worrell of Portsmouth; a brother, Albert Worrell of Canada, and a number of nieces and nephews in this section. Funeral services were conducted from Mt. Horeb Methodist Church last Saturday afternoon by her pastor the Rev. F.L. Baker. The church choir sang "How Firm a Foundation," "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Burial was in the family plot in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ben and Millard Rountree, Charlie Whitfield, Tommy Cunningham, Sterling Bryant, Arthur Whitehead, Walter Bishop and Jack Stephenson. Honorary bearers were the older men of Mt. Horeb congregation. The casket was covered with a pall of white carnations and ferns. Other beautiful designs were a token of the love and esteem in which Mrs. Worrell was held by family and friends.
