All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EVA JANE YATES Miss Eva Jane Yates, 67, well-known resident of Courtland, died Monday afternoon at 6:30 o’clock in Patrick Henry Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late George W. and Elizabeth Williams Yates of Southampton County, and a member of Newsoms Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Flora Scott; one brother, George Herbert Yates, both of Courtland; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o’clock at the graveside in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, by Rev. L.F. Smith, pastor of the Newsoms Baptist Church, and Rev. R.L. Bailey, pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church. Active pallbearers were Theo Scott, Henry Scott, David Kitchen, Godwin Kitchen, Robert Whitehead and N.T. Duck.
