GEORGE HERBERT YATES

   COURTLAND - A graveside funeral service for George Herbert Yates was 
conducted in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, Friday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. 
Harold Fuss of Courtland Methodist Church and the Rev. Herman Smith of 
Courtland Baptist Church.  W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home was in charge.

   Pallbearers were David Kitchen, G.D. Overman, R.W. Whitehead, Aubrey 
Lankford, Dr. D.C. Williams, George Kitchen Jr., Henry Scott, Charles Ward and 
Edward Grissom.

   Yates, 75, died early Thursday in his home after a short illness.  He was a 
retired mechanic.

   A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Clara 
Vaden Yates and a son of George Waverly and Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Yates.

   He was a member of Courtland Methodist Church and Courtland Masonic Lodge. 
He was an Army veteran of World War I.

   Surviving are nieces and nephews.
