All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Thomas BLUNT, will dated 26 Sep 1777, proved 12 Mar 1778 Thomas Blunts will In the name of God Amen I Thomas Blunt of the parish of Nottoway & county of Southampton being Sick & week tho of perfect & Sound mind and memory do make and ordain this as my last will and testament in mannar and form following (to wit) First I lend unto my loveing wife Ann Blunt during her natural life the use of the plantation whereon I now live with the land adjoining also the use of the plantation & land I purchased of Henry Brown's executors, also the use & labour of the following Negroes (to wit) Jack Walley great Judy Patt little Judy Meorea and Hannah. I give unto my said wife Ann Blunt & her heirs forever all my household & kitchen all my plantation utensils together with my Stocks of all kinds (except a Mare hereafter given my Son Henry Blunt Secondly.. I give unto my Son Henry Blunt & to his heirs my negro boy Moses & my bay mare Called tempy thirdly I give unto my Son Joseph Gray Blunt and to his heirs my Negro boy Simon Fourthly- I give unt my Son Thomas Blunt & to his heirs my Negro boy Peter. Fifthly I give unto my Son Edmund Blunt & to his heirs my Negro Boy Ned Sixthly I give unto my Son William Blunt & to his heirs my Negro Boy Daniel Senventh I give unto my Son James Blunt & to his heirs my Negro Boy Ziba [page break] [p.] 222 Eighthly I give unto my Daughter Sarah Blunt & to her heirs my Negro girl Janey & her increase Ninthly I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth Blunt & to her hers my Negro girl Cherrey & her Increase.- tenthly I give unto my Daughter Ann Blunt & to her heirs my Negro girl Amey and her Increase Eleventh My will & desire is that the lagecies given my Children as above remain in the possession of my wife untill my said Children severally Come to the age of twenty one years or intermarry & further. I desire after the death of my wife that the negores lent her & their Increas from this time be eqully divided Amongst all my Children herein named or the survivors of them or their heirs; I alo desire after the death of wife afforesaid that all my land herein mentioned & lent my wife be sold for the best price that can be had and the money arising therefrom be equally divided Amongst my Six Sons herein named or the servivors of them or their heirs & after my Just debts & legacies are paid all the remainder of my estate of every kind not before given away, I give unto my loveing wife Ann Blunt & her heirs And lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my friends Edwin Gray & William Thomas whole and Sole executors of this my last will & testament revoking all former willa by me made disiring no Appraisement of m est. ['my estate'] be made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 26 Day of September 1777 Signed Sealed Published Tho.s Blunt (Seal) and declared by the Testator In Presents of Ben Williams William Moore his John X Bedgood mark At a court held for the County of Southampton the 12.th day of March 1778 This will was presented in Court by Edwin Gray and William Thomas the executors therein Named & proved by the oaths of Benj. Williams and William Moore two of the witnesses thereto and [ordered] to be recorded. And on the motion of the said executor who made oath According to law certifecate was granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in dew form given Securty whereupon &c Sam Kello Cl [Apparently Thomas' widow Ann remarried, to Richard BLOW. His will (12 Dec 1785, pr: 9 Mar 1786) appears WB4:179-80.
