All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Giles BARRETT (1787-1825), will dated 20 Oct 1823, recorded 19 Feb 1828 In the name of God Amen I Giles Barrett being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last will and Testament the manner and form as follows (viz): I give cousin Lucy Joyner one negro boy by the name of Cary and one negro girl by the name of Fanny and paying all my just debts I loan one half of the balance of my Estate if real and personal to my wife Polly Barrett. If my surviving widow should marry I only loan her one third (viz). I gave to Lucy Kindred all the balance of my Estate if real and personal. I do appoint my Son in Law Henry Kindred my Executor of this my last will and Testament. I do hereby constitute and establish this to be my last will and Testament and revoking all wills I heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this 20th day of October eighteen hundred and twenty three. Giles Barrett (seal) Witnesses Wm. Massenburg } Jos. M. This last will and Testament of Giles Barrett decd. was proved by the oath of Benjamin Revell one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and William Massenburg another of the subscribing witnesses thereto being decd. Robert Goodwin being Sworn deposed & saith that he is well acquainted with the hand writing of the said William Massenburg & verily believes that the name of the said William Massenburg to the said will subscribed to be in the handwriting of the said Wm. Massenburg where upon this said will is ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Henry Kindred Ex'or therein named who made oath and together with James Rochelle and George G. Gurley his securities entered into and ackd. a bond in the penalty of five thousand dollars conditioned as the Law directs certificate is granted the said Henry Kindred for obtaining a probat of said will in due form.
