Item I ["give" struck] lend to my loving wife Parthene Barnes my plantation whereon I now live during her life her widowhood and after her death to be sold and the money to be equally divided between the whole of my children. Item I lend ["un" struck] to my loving wife Parthine Barnes her choice of my negro man Arthur or Martin also my negro woman Masson also my Girl Cherry during her life her widowhood. Item I lend to my loving wife Parthene Barnes One sorrel Horse Jack also four Cows and Calves of her choice also six Head of sheep of her choice also one feather bed of her choice of her choice [dupe] also fifteen of her choice of Hoggs. also one riding chair also one Chart[sic] and wheels also one buffat[sic] and two tables also three iron Potts[sic] also One dutch oven also six setting Chairs of her choice also the whole of my empty Barrels also one plow and all my plow Hoes also two weading[sic] Hoes during her life her widowhood and at her death or marriage to be sold and the money ["arising" struck] to be equally divided between the whole of my children. Item I give and bequeath to my lovely son John C. Barnes one bay filly also one bed and furniture to him and his Heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my lovely son Peter Barnes my negro girl Hester one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my lovely wife Parthene Barnes twenty five barrels corn also two stacks blade of fodder to her and her heirs forever. Item My wish and desire is that ["after" struck] the negroe[sic] man and the remainder of my estate not given away to be sold to pay my just debts and after being paid, I give and bequeath to John C. Barnes the sum of fifty Dollars and the balance of the money arising therefrom to be equally divided between all my children and do hereby appoint and authorize my son Collin W. Barnes my executor to fulfill this my last Will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and Seal this 8th day of June in the year of our Lord 1814. Buxton (hismark) Barnes ĪSealĪ Teste Henry Poter Samuel Turner Bailey (hismark) Barnes At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 16th day of October 1815 This last will and testament was proved by the oaths of Samuel Turner and Nathaniel Jones two of the witnesses hereto and together with the codicil thereon endorsed being proved by the oaths of Harry Poter and Samuel Turner two of the witnesses hereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Collin W. Barnes the executor therein named who made oath thereto and together with Samuel Turner and William Phillips his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of two thousand Dollars & on the 18 day of November 1816 entered into with Jesse D. Beal his securities. and acknowledged another bond in the penalty of five Thousand dollars both Conditioned as the law directs certificate is granted the said Collin W. Barnes for obtaining a probat thereof in due form. Teste James Rochelle cc Court clerk note entered next states, "This will should have been recorded in the book for the year 1815 but was omitted". Transcriber note: This will is in book 8 page 60/61 with space left for entering the prove/record information but it was not entered. This same will appears in book 8 on page 459/460 with prove/record entry and the clerk's statement of entry omission above. [The version above is the later version.
