Will of Edward Barrett, Will Book 1, pp 149-50 Southampton Co VA 24 
Oct 1754

In the name of God Amen, I Edward Barrett of Southampton County being 
very sick and weak in body but in perfect memory thanks to God for it 
and remembering the mortality of my body, do give and bequeath in this 
manner following. First I bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my 
body to be buried in a decent manner, according to the direction of my 
executors and with what worldly goods God had been pleased to bestow 
me with. I give and dispose of in manner and terms as following
Item. I Give and Bequeath to my Son Edmond the Plantation as I now 
Live on and half my Land Belonging to it to he and his Heirs forever 
and a Feather Bed and Furniture.
Item. I Give and Bequeath to my Son Simon the Plantation that he 
Liveth on and the other half of my Land to he and his Heirs forever 
and one cow and calf and one Dish and one Bason.
Item. I Give and Bequeath to my Wife Sarah two Feather Beds and 
furniture Dureing her Life and then to my Son Edmond and I give to my 
Wife Sarah my Rideing Horse bridle and Saddle. 
Item. Now the Rest of my Estate to be Equally Divided Between my wife 
Sarah and my Son Edmond.
I do hereby Constitute and appoint my Wife Sarah and my Son Edmond my 
whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
Witness my Hand and Seal this 24th Day of October 1754. Edmond 
Barrett, his mark. 
Witnesses: Samuel Davis, William M. Fowler, Jacob Barrett
At a court held for the County of Southampton the 14th Day of November 
175? This will was proved in Court by the oaths of Samuel Davis, 
William Fowler and Jacob Barrett, the witnesses thereto and on the 
motion of Edmond Barrett one of the Executors therein who made oath 
according to Law Certificate is granted him for obtaining probat 
hereof in due form giving Security whereupon.
