SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Benjamin Bradshaw, 20 Mar 1790 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Benjamin Bradshaw of the County of Southampton being sick and weak but of disposing mind & memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following: Imprimis: I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body I desire may be buried in a decent and christian form &c. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Jacob the plantation or tract of land I bought of Joseph Jones containing one hundred and eighty acres more or less and bounded as expressed in the deed from said Jones to me recorded in the office of this county to him and his heirs forever. I also give unto my said son Jacob and his heirs a negro girl named Sier and one bed and furniture which he now sleeps upon. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin Bradshaw all my land contained in the following bounds (to wit): begining at Market's line from thence to the line of the land that I bought of Arthur Williams from thence to Joseph Bradshaws line and from thence a line of marked trees to Moses Joiners line and from thence to a white oak between the aforesaid land & Ephraim Spiveys land & from thence a line of marked trees to the aforesaid Martins's line to him and his heirs forever. I also give my son Benjamin one negro boy named Nero and one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Phillip one half of the tract of land I bought of Moses Joyner bounded by the lines of Sampson Pitman, Charles Cosby & Charles Powers and separated from the other half by a branch runing out of the Pocason & through the cornfield in to Sarahs branch & through the said branch by a straight line to Charles Cosbys line which said dividend I give to him and his heirs forever. I also give my said son Phillip & to his heirs a negro girl named Fan. Item: I give and bequeath to my son William Bradshaw and to his heirs forever the other half of the land I bought of Moses Joyner which is on the east side of the the branch runing through the cornfield and bounded by the aforesaid branch and the old line expressed in the deed from the said Moses Joyner to me, I also give to my son William and to his heirs forever a negro girl named Sarah & one young heifer & one bed and furniture. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Richard Bradshaw two slaves named Sampson & Cherry to him and his heirs and should either of my sons Phillip or William die under age & unmarried, I give their dividend of land to my said son Richard and to his heirs forever, also I give my said son Richard one young heifer and one bed and furniture. Item: I give & bequeath to my daughter Gelina and to her heirs only one feather bed & furniture called hers, also a negro girl named Nan. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Ridley one feather bed and furniture, also one negro girl named Lucy to her and her heirs forever and it is my desire that after the death of my wife that my said daughter Ridley may have her choice of one cow out of my stock of cattle then remaining. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Stepens one negro girl named Jaen to her and her heirs forever. Item: It is my will & desire that all the rest & residue of my estate be it of what nature kind or quality soever (except one hand mill which I hereby give and bequeath to my son Benjamin and which I desire may not be moved from the place she now stands upon) may remain in the possession of my loving wife Mary for & during the term of her natural life or widowhood and after the decease of my said wife, then to be equally divided between all my children then living to them and their heirs forever. And further I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons Jacob & Benjamin Bradshaw my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will & Testament & guardians to all my children under age. And At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 8th day of November 1792 This Will was proved by the oath of Francis Young Jr, another witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
