All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, the 26th day of July 1782, I Edward Britt being weak in body but of sound mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (to wit): Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of almighty God that gave it to be buried in a decent and christianly manner at the discretion of my Executors and as to what worldly estate it hath pleased God to possess me with in this life, I give and dispose in manner and form following (to wit): Impremis: I give to my sons Edward Britt and Isham Britt and to their heirs forever all my land and plantation wherein I now live to equally divided between them. Item: I give to my daughter Patience Williams five shillings. Item: I give to my son-in-law Arthur Holliman one negro boy called Peter to him and his heirs forever provided he account with my estate for twenty five pounds. Item: I give to my daughter Mary Allan one negro girl called Amdee to her and her heirs forever provided she account with my estate for twenty five pounds. Item: I give all the remainder of my estate be it of what nature or kind soever to be equally divided among my wife Sarah Britt and children hereafter named, viz: Sarah Summerell, Edward Britt Junior, Johnson Britt, Caty Holliman, Betsy Britt, Mary Allen and my grandson Wiley Britt to them and their heirs forever. My will and desire is that if either of my aforesaid children die in their homage? or without lawful issue of their body the survivors of them should inherit their part so died. I lastly constitute and appoint my two sons Edward Britt and Johnson Britt my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament revoking and making void all and every other former Will heretofore by me made. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written. Holliman John Williamson John Clayton At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 30th day of July 1790. This Will was presented in Court by Edward Britt, one of the Executors therein named liberty being reserved for the other to qualify, proved by the oaths of A. Holliman & John Clayton, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of the Executor who made oath according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon &c.
