All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Anne Marie Piland angen429@yahoo.com November 5, 2007, 7:37 pm Source: Southampton Co, Va Will Book 4 P 372 Written: February 26, 1782 Recorded: July 8, 1790 Edward Britt’s Will In the name of God Amen The 26th day of July 1782, I Edward Britt Senr being weak in body but of sound mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (to wit) principally and first of all I give and recommend my Seal into the hands of almighty God that gave it to be buried in a decent and Christianly manner at the discretion of my Executor and as to what worldly Estate it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and dispose in manner and form following (to wit) Imperis I Give to my Sons Edward Britt and Johnson Britt and to their heirs forever all my land and plantation whereon I now live to Equally divided between them Item I Give to my Daughter Patience Williams five shillings Item I give to my Son in law Arthur Holliman one Negro boy called Peter to him and his heirs forever provided he amount with my estate for twenty five pounds. I give all the remainder of my Estate be it of what nature or kind __wer to be Equally divided among my wife Sarah Britt and children hereafter named: viz, Sarah Summeral, Edward Britt Junr, John Britt, Caty Holliman, Betsey Britt, Mary E Allen [? off edge of page cannot be sure of last name] and my Grandson Wiley Britt to them and their heirs forever my will and desire is that if either of my aforesaid children died in their none age or without lawful Issue of their body the survivors of them should inherit their part so due. I lastly constitute and appoint my two Sons Edward Britt and Johnson Britt my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament revoking and making void all and every other former will hereunto by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my Seal the day and Year first above written. Signed Sealed Published and declared to be the last will and testament of the above named Edward Britt in presence of Edward Britt [seal] A Holliman John Williamson John Clayton At a court held for the County of Southampton the 8th day of July 1790. This will was presented in court by Edward Britt one of the Executors therein named liberty being reserved for the others to qualify proved by the oaths of A Holliman & John Clayton two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be record and on the motion of the sd Executor who made oath according to law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate there of in due form giving Security whereupon recorded.
