All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Anne Marie Piland angen429@yahoo.com November 5, 2007, 7:38 pm Source: Southampton Co, Va Will Book 4 Pp 468-9 Written: February 8, 1786 Recorded: January 13, 1791 John Britt’s Will In the name of God amen I John Britt of the County of Southampton in Aling and being Sick & weak but of sound mind and perfect memory do make ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows 1stly I give unto my Son William Britt five shillings to be his full share of my whole Estate. 2dly I give to my Daughter Tamer Britt one Feather Bed and furniture or five pounds which she makes choice of 3dly I leave my land and plantation to be sold and the money equally divided Between my four youngest sons namely Benjamin Britt, Joseph Britt, Beasent Britt and Arianton Britt [page break] 4thly It is my Will and Desire that all the Remains of my morable [?] Estate should be equally divided between my loving wife Priscilla Britt and my seven children Sarah Johnson, Tamer Britt, Mary Britt and Benjamin Britt, Joseph Britt, Besent Britt and Arianton Britt __ and I further appoint Benjamin Britt and John Crumpler my hole and sole Executors of this my last Will and testament and hereby do revoke and make void all former wills by me heretofore made and do establish this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 8th day of February one thousand seven hundred eighty and six. Signed sealed in presence of John Pursell John (X) Britt Edmund (X) Crumpler William (X) Crumpler At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 13th day of January 1791. This Will was presented in Court proved by the oath of John Pursell one of the witnesses thereto and Continued and at a Court held for the said County of Southampton the 8th day of December 1791, This will was further proved by the oath of William Crumpler another witness thereto and ordered to be recorded and at a court held for the said County of Southampton the 9th day of February 1792 on the motion of Brittain Britt one of the executors in the said Will named the other refusing who made oath according to law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form giving security whereupon &c.
